Timea Bacsinszky

Timea Bacsinszky biography

Currently ranked No. 41 in the world, Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky has one career title and has been ranked in the top 55 each of the past three seasons.

Turning pro at age 14, Bacsinszky cracked the Top 100 for the first time in 2008. She entered 2008 ranked No. 122, but moved into the Top 100 after reaching the second round of the Australian Open. She followed that up by reaching the semifinals at Antwerp, including an injury-shortened 6-2, 4-6, 4-1 RET win in the quarterfinals over No. 8 Daniela Hantuchova. That victory moved her to a career-best 60th, and she ended the year ranked 53rd thanks to a second-round appearance at the French Open and a trip to the third round of the US Open.

Unable to defend early points in 2009, she plunged to No. 100 by Indian Wells and eventually to No. 131 entering Marseille. She made a big turn by reaching the quarterfinals at Budapest, the semifinals at Prague and the semifinals at Istanbul in consecutive weeks to rise back to 70th. At year's end, she won her first WTA event, defeating two Top 30 players to take the crown at Luxembourg and finish 54th.
